Enteral Feeding Strategy And Supplementation Requirements Health Essays

Enteral Feeding Strategy And Supplementation Requirements Health Essays Enteral Feeding Strategy And Supplementation Requirements Health Essay Enteral Feeding Strategy And Supplementation Requirements Health Essay Enteric eating is required in preterm baby due to the deficiency of coordination of suction, get downing and take a breathing ( Yu Victor A ; Simmer,2005 ) . Early enteric eating in preterm baby is delayed due to enteric immatureness and the increased hazard of developing necrotising enterocolitis ( NEC ) . However early eating is believed to assist accomplishing ripening in response to stimulation ( Ziegler, 2011 ) . Milk eating can be initiated in the first 24 hours of life and foremilk will be the best option as it is high in protein and immunological factors. Human milk is good for preterm baby because it helps to diminish the rates of late oncoming of sepsis, necrotizing enterocolitis ( NEC ) , and retinopathy of prematureness ( underwood,2013 ) . , Enteric eating can be initiated by supplying a minimal enteric eating ( MEF ) or trophic eating of 12-24 ml/kg/day of expression or/breast milk on twenty-four hours 1 or 2 of babe s life ( Bombell, 2009 ) . With respects to the method of enteric eating, Hawes et Al, ( 2004 ) concluded that there is deficient informations to back up the everyday use of orogastric forced feeding OGT versus Nasogatric NGT ; in add-on to it is effects on eating, growing and development Milk eatings is provided via tubing either intermittently ( over 10 to 20 proceedingss every two or three hours ) , or continuously utilizing an extract pump. A recent Cochrane reappraisal of 7 research tests affecting 511 VLBW babies found there was no difference in clip to accomplish full enteric provenders, bodily growing and the incidence of NEC between different feeding methods. ( Premj and Chessell,2011 ) . Human milk should be fortified or supplemented to keep optimum nutrition position for preterm baby ( Reali et al, 2010 ) . Supplements with multicomponent fortifiers have been shown to increase weight addition, additive and head growing. However, there are deficient published informations to measure its long term neurodevelopmental and growing results ( Kuschel and Harding, 2009 ) . Human milk is fortified when enteric provender intake exceeds 100 ml/kg/day and should be continued until the baby reaches a weight less than 2kg ( Reali et al, 2010 ) . Multivitamin solution of 1 ml/day and Iron supplementation of 2mg/kg/day at the age of 1 month until 12 months is recommended for VLBW baby feeding human milk ( CPQCC toolkit, 2008 ) Discourse a scheme for originating and keeping lactation. The most of import factor in the induction and constitution of lactation is to promote the female parent showing milk within the first 6 hours after bringing. The female parent is encouraged to show 8-10 times in the first 24 hours with bearing in head non to let more than 6 hours gap nightlong ( Jones, 2008 ) . Frequent milk look will assist the growing of milk-producing tissue. The frequence nevertheless can be reduced once the female parent has established a supply of 750-900ml/day by twenty-four hours 10 without set uping on the supply ( Jones, 2008 ) . In add-on to patronize milk look, emptying the chest is of import in exciting milk production. The milk synthesis is believed to be higher in a well-drained chest than in a full chest ( Jones and Spencer, 2007 ) . It should be made clear to the female parent that a little milk volume in the signifier of few small beads is usually expected in the early yearss after bringing ( Jones, 2008 ) . Supplying such information is critical as it will promote the female parent to be less stressed with respect to milk measure hence will better the continuance and care of lactation ( underbrush, 2013 ) Increasing female parent s consciousness through instruction on the importance of breastfeeding and aid by a nurse or lactation adviser during the early phase of lactation will assist female parents to adhere to suckling long plan ( underbrush, 2013 ) . In add-on, female parents should be encouraged to utilize more hindmilk as it is high in protein, fatty acids, energy, and fat-soluble vitamins than the colostrum ( underbrush, 2013 ) . Therefore, to increase milk production and fat content of expressed milk the combination of manus look and electric pumping should be used. ( underwood,2013 ) In the effort of exciting milk production, assorted practical methods are available that can be explained to female parents. These include skin-to-skin ( kangaroo ) attention, non-nutritive Suckling at the chest, chest massage and showing milk near to the baby ( Jones, 2008 ) The Multidisciplinary squad function in the transportation from tubing feeding to breast eating. The passage procedure from tubing feeding to established chest eating requires the support and a coaction of a mulitidisciplinary squad. Oral eating is started when babies are between 32 and 34 hebdomads gestation. However, the passage to unwritten eating can be really ambitious because of neurological immatureness, autonomic disfunctions and un-coordination suck-swallow-breath mechanisms ( Rita et al, 2012 ) . Speech-language therapies ( SLTs ) play an of import function in the clinical appraisal of feeding behaviour and get downing mechanism. In add-on, they are responsible in executing the unwritten motor intercession ( OMI ) ( ASHA, 2004 ) . OMI, including Non Nutritive suction ( NNS ) and unwritten stimulation, can assist in the transitioning from forced feeding to bottle or breast eating ( Arvedson et al. , 2010 ) . Oral stimulation is good in heightening the look constituent of suction, which in bend enhances feeding public presentation of the premature baby. ( Fucil, Gisel and Lau 2005 ) . NNS with silent persons or empty chest accelerates the ripening of the Suckling physiological reaction, taking to the acceleration of the passage from tubing to unwritten eating ( Jones A ; Spencer, 2005 ) . Skin to clamber ( STS ) attention plays a critical portion in the passage period from tubing to breast. STS keeping have been shown to assist the procedure of milk expulsion and the look of larger volume of milk ( Jones A ; Spencer, 2005 ) . In add-on STS consequences in developing positive behaviors such as rooting, talking and traveling towards the nipple country ( Jones A ; Spencer, 2005 ) . The neonatal nurse can help the female parent with STS keeping and explicate the importance of this attention in order to accomplish optimum eating development. Correct fond regard and positioning during suckling are of import in accomplishing better milk flow and transportation. As such it is of import for lactation adviser or neonatal nurse to learn the female parent in doing certain that the baby obtains an equal seal, sufficient negative force per unit area and equal Suckling mechanism ( Jones A ; Spencer, 2005 ) . There are many places which are recommended when suckling the preterm. These are flexure place, football clasp place and cross cradle place ( Jones A ; Spencer, 2005 ) . Explore the grounds for growing diminution ( 2 hebdomads after discharge ) in and propose a scope of feeding options to better nutritionary consumption. Many really low birth weight ( VLBW ) babies have alimentary shortages at the clip of discharge ; this can be related to factors such as Intrauterine growing deceleration and postpartum growing deceleration ( susan A ; Carlson, 2005 ) . Intrauterine growing deceleration is the hazard factor of hapless growing in the first twelvemonth of life for VLBW babies. In add-on decrease in entire energy consumption and the usage of corticoids can lend to the growing diminution or the decrease of additive growing at the clip of discharge ( Susan A ; Carlson, 2005 ) . Increased demand of high volume of chest milk ingestion and high accelerated of bone mineralization rate at 42-43 hebdomads post-conceptual age are other factors which may lend in the diminution of VLBW baby s weight after infirmary discharge ( King, 2005 ) . Many surveies have shown that chest Federal babies do non turn good compared to formula fed babies after hospital discharge. One account for this is the fact that human milk contain unequal food to back up the demands of VLBW baby during the first 6-12 months after discharge. However there is limited published informations in literature to back up this theory ( Greer, 2007 ) . Two attacks have been suggested to better the alimentary consumption of breast-fed VLBW baby after the infirmary discharge. The first attack is to replace some of breastfeed milk with alimentary enriched station discharge expression ( NEPDF ) ( Griffin and Cooke, 2007 A ; schanler A ; Atkinson, 2005 ) . Mothers can be advised to replace one to two tierces of chest provenders to the NEPDF. This pattern will assist to fulfill the baby who may necessitate feeding every 2 -3 hours. Mothers can be advised to give the expression at dark for the intent of leting a complete dark remainder, therefore cut downing mother s weariness and increasing the breastfeeding continuance ( Griffin and Cooke,2007 ) The 2nd attack is the munition of uttered human milk with either NEPDF to 90cal/100ml or 2 packages of human milk fortifier per 100mL ( Griffin and Cooke, 2007 ) . Although the usage of human milk fortifier during the station discharge period is non a suited and everyday pattern as such supplementation may forestall feeding at chest. Furthermore the concentration of the alimentary concentration in human milk fortifiers might be excessively high as the infant range near-term gestational age ( Heiman A ; Schanler, 2007 ) . However, recent survey by Zachariassen et Al ( 2011 ) showed that munition of breastmilk had improved the weight of female baby during the intercession period but non at 12 month corrected age. In add-on, the survey have shown that PDF feed baby had better betterment in weight compared to those fed by mother milk with or without munition. Weaning diet advice and the grounds for it. The kid is 25 hebdomads old ( ~ 6 month uncorrected age ) and ~ 3 months corrected age, therefore the female parent can be advised to get down ablactating. Preterm may be ready debut of to be introduced for solid nutrient between the age 5-8 months uncorrected age. However it is recommended to wait until the kid completes 3 month corrected age as the kid will hold good caput control development ( King, 2009 ) . Equally good as holding limited with energy, entirely breastfeed preterm babies may be iron depleted by about 2 months. Therefore, the debut of ablactation may assist the care of Fe position and good energy demand supply ( King, 2009 ) . The female parent can be advised to detect the preparedness cues prior to the debut of solid food- See appendix 1 ( Bliss, 2011 ) . The female parent should besides be advised to give soft texture at the initial phase of ablactating and so easy advancement to lumpy texture or finger nutrient at around 9 months uncorrected age ( King, 2009 ) . It is of import to promote the female parent to let the kid to hold self feeding. Self eating may assist the kid to accept assortment of different textures. It besides allows the kid to visualise and research the nutrient before seeking to set it in the oral cavity ( King, 2009 ) . Mothers could be advised on first nutrient to offer the kid for illustration babe rice, strain fruit or veggies and meat and in add-on the measure should be explained. It should besides be advised to get down few teaspoon and bit by bit construct on the sum with one repast a twenty-four hours followed by the debut of two repasts a twenty-four hours within one or two hebdomads. Strategy Management in the course Purchasing and Logistics Essay

Strategy Management in the course Purchasing and Logistics - Essay Example Another strategy for them to adopt is marketing strategy which is a very powerful measure to give them an added competitive advantage in the business arena. Consequently it will allow the organization to focus on concentrating its resources on the greatest opportunities so as to boost sales and attain a sustainable competitive advantage.1 Marketing strategy can be termed as a high-level formula involving the "generals" of the organization in determining how to bank and upgrade the firms strengths while taking advantage of its opponents/ competitors weaknesses. Barclaycard should therefore consider making e marketing strategy a major component of their various strategies. This is because the strategy will define how Barclaycard will engage its clients, predictions and the overall competition in the marketing field for assured success. A marketing strategy will serve as the base of a marketing plan. The plan contains a set of specific actions necessary to successfully implement a specific marketing strategy. For example: attaching low price tags to their products so as to attract more customers. Once the organization establishes a relationship with consumers, it will sell additional, higher-margin services which will enhance the consumers interaction with the low-cost service. The marketing strategy will adequately integrate Barclaycard’s marketing goals, its policies, and sequences of action into a solid whole. The strategy’s objective will be that of providing a foundation for the development of a tactical plan, thereby allowing the e organization to effectively and efficiently carry out its mission. The strategy should flow from the organizations mission statement since the strategy is derived from much broader corporate strategy, missions and goals With every marketing strategy being unique, both generic and specific strategies can be categorised in a number of ways. Michael Porter categorized the strategy on the dimensions of strategic strength and

Natural Selection Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 2

Natural Selection - Essay Example that when a certain species is bred with another one from different part of the world, it leads to creation of new patterns of species that are well adapted to the environment. It is a dangerous idea since it bases its argument on the ground that species once developed or created can never transform which is not correct. For instance, gene duplication is able to form different species resulting from the same parental organism mainly because of polyploidization. Human activity such as mining and construction dismantle animal homes thus rendering them homeless and at the same leaving them vulnerable to preditators and extreme climates that make their survival hard. Global climate change and environmental pollution leads to production of poisonous gases such as carbon dioxide that endanger some species such as marine life. This is because they consume poisonous chemicals that either kill them or alter their reproductive system. On the same front, change in temperatures and climate conditions leads to prolonged dry spells which wipes away animal homes thus hindering evolution of new

Residential Housing Essay Example for Free

Residential Housing Essay KB Home, one of the major housing companies in the market made a statement telling the public that they do not see housing sector to stabilize by this year. Number of housing companies has been acquiring great losses by the end of 2005 as disposable income of consumers’ declines as the consequence of lowering down of per capita income in the economy. According to the President and Chief Executive Officer of KB Home, Jeffrey Mezger, they have suffered to a staggering loss of nearly $10 per share during the first quarter of 2007 (Steverman 1).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Deutsche Bank’s economists, Peter Hopper, said that the housing correction works sluggishly just like a ‘slow-motion train wreck’ which made worse the housing sector of the economy. Moreover, the said loss of KB Home worse than what they have expected. Analysts expects around $7 loss per share which is very far from the $10 per share loss accounted last quarter. Therefore, with the further worsening of the stock prices in the stock market, this only means that there will be no improvement in the coming first quarter of 2008.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   To make the situation worse, there has been a rumor in the market regarding the bankruptcy of Countrywide which supplies loans and mortgages worth 2 million and 9 million respectively. Countrywide suffered from 25 percent losses as of January 8 of this year. Meaning, there would be a shortage on the supply of loan and mortgages in the financial market just in case Countrywide is really approaching to bankruptcy. Moreover, the shortage of supply of loans and mortgages in the economy will only worsen the purchasing power of the consumers, giving way for a further deterioration of demand to housing industry.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   One possible reason behind the turmoil in the housing industry would be the oversupply of homes in the market creating a pressure for its prices to decline. By the time price level of housing units starts to decline, profitability of housing companies begins to deteriorate giving way for experiencing a low return on investment in the next quarter. Driven by speculation, investors will start to pull out their stocks in the housing sector causing stock prices to turn down. In this regard, the connection between the oversupply of housing unit in the market with the deterioration of stock prices is already established. Moreover, it is not only the oversupply of housing units in the market that caused the instability of the housing sector. The growing competition also adds up to the growth of the problem. At the end of the day, market analysts still believes that housing sector will not recover this year based from the current degree of losses that housing companies and financial institutions had experienced on the last quarter of 2007. Analysis   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   It is true that the turmoil in the housing sector started during the last quarter of 2005 when consumers have high disposable income. During then, consumers spent more in the housing market attracting the housing companies to produce more house units next quarter. By the start of the first quarter of 2006, per capita income of consumers starts to decline giving them a limited disposable income for housing sector. At this point, the housing industry experienced oversupply of housing units since companies did not anticipate the deterioration of consumer’s disposable income. The said oversupply caused the price level of the housing companies to decline causing the return on investment to depreciate which later on forced stock holder to withdraw their stocks in the market. The increasing competition in the housing sector also add up to the lowering down of housing unit prices since companies in this industry starts to compete each other through price competition. Meaning, housing companies tries to lower down the prices of their home units in order to attract more customers.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The negative effects of eh oversupply of housing units will not be that severe if there is only adequate number of financial institutions that will provide loans and mortgages to uplift the purchasing power of the consumers, therefore, improving the demand on the housing industry. But the problem now would be, even financial lenders is also having a hard time providing loans and mortgages due to the low income level of consumers in the market which imposes the threat of bankruptcy   to the financial lenders.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   It would be best if the government would start making action by offering low interest rate on credit. The federal bank must structuralize a special credit scheme for housing sector customers, e.g. low interest rate on borrowing or longer payment period, in order to solve the problem of over supply on the said industry.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Another way by which the government could solve this instability of housing sector would be to provide financial aids to Countrywide which, as what have already pointed out during the first part of the paper, plays a major role in uplifting the purchasing power of consumers though provision of loans and mortgages that can be used in purchasing housing units. The said government aid may be in the form of monetary of fiscal Moreover, the government could also increase the wage rate of the workers in the economy in order to improve the current level of disposable incomes of consumers in the market. By the time the disposable income of consumers increase, they will now have enough money to purchase housing units which will solve the problem regarding the oversupply of home units. The Concern of National Debt :: Argumentative Economy Economics Papers

The Concern of National Debt The National Debt is large, and should be a major concern to the economy. But a even bigger concern is how our Government plans to balance the budget and pay off the Federal Deficit. I am not in favor of passing the National Debt on to future generations, nor am I in favor of passing the Republican's Budget Plan either. The Republican's wantto sharply cut spending for Medicare and Medicaid health benefits for elderly and poor Americans in order to balance the budget by 2002 - while also providing $240 billion in tax cuts. I am in favor of balancing the budget but through many different routes. 1) cut Social Security but have Americans set-up tax free IRA's for their future. 2) Make a politicians job not so glamourous. A mere $35,000 dollars per year and a suitable benefits plan like the majority of Americans have would be fine. Maybe not so many greedy, power hungry indviduals would want the job to make them richer and us the American workers poorer. Maybe just maybe an average american would take the job to help the overall benefit of America as a whole and not just worry what is in it for them. 3) Cut some of the entitlements programs, but let the American people decide where to cut. The Government should have on-line voting, so our voices are heard. The Republican's package is a tax cut for the rich, it;s much more a tax cut for the middle class -- and a bad deal for the working poor. But I do understand, no matter where the cuts go, or who they hurt more, the dollars must come out. Take the dollars away from the rich and the greedy politicians who want more and more each year for their own benefit!! Most of these politicians are set for life with their million dollar benefits

Broad Narrow View of CSR

In my view the statement ‘the social responsibility of business is to increase profit’ is true to a point, however, I believe a corporation’s responsibilities spread beyond just maximising profits. The ‘Narrow View’ argues that profit maximisation is the only objective for a business. Levitt. T wrote, â€Å"In the end business has only two responsibilities- to obey the elementary canons of face-to-face civility (honesty, good faith and so on) and to seek material gain†. Milton Friedman argued that business has no social responsibilities other than to maximise profit.Friedman also argues that the corporation is an artificial person and can, therefore, only have â€Å"artificial responsibilities. † â€Å"Business† is apparently an even more artificial construct and therefore we are left with just proprietors and corporate executives who can actually be responsible. Because the function of business organisation is to make money, the owners of corporations employ executives to accomplish the goals, thus managers are obliged to act in the interest of owners. According to Friedman, executives have social corporate responsibilities beyond pursuit of profit. They must spend shareholder money for general social interest such as taxing the owners and spending taxes on social causes. (Friedman, 1970) â€Å"There is one and only one social responsibility of business is to use its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays within the rules of the game, which is to say, engages in open and free competition without deception or fraud. † If there was no initiation of force, there is nothing wrong with profit. However, at the same time, there are many instances of initiation of force that give businesses, and the market, the illusion of profit. Most of the time, these initiations of force come in the form of which creates regulation benefiting one company at the disadvantage of free competition or some sort of subsidy which takes money from taxpayers. Every business has a responsibility to its owners and shareholders to increase its profits, but successful businesses also help provide for the community. Financial managers don't often think about the business' social responsibility to increase profits. However, while their main concern may be aking money for themselves and their company, their efforts will often generate revenue within the community, providing benefits which business owners and shareholders may never consider. All things being equal, the profit and loss of a business tells an owner how well or how poorly a business is meeting the wants and needs of individuals in society. This is true for a small or the largest of corporations. It doesn’t matter whether a business services a few folks locally, or a mass of population internationally, the role of profit and loss is still the same in any business situation. The only way a business ca n increase profit is if a business, small, medium, or large is providing something of value to other individuals. Each of these businesses is benefiting someone in society, and the business knows this because of such profit. In contrast to what Friedman and Levitt said about business has other obligations in addition to pursuing profits, the broad view maintain that a corporation has obligations not just to its shareholders but to other constituencies that are affected.Keith Davis stated that social responsibility implies that business decision maker in process of serving his own business interest is obliged to take actions that protect and enhance society’s interest. Shareholders own the company and they entrusts management with their funds and in return the management make as much money for them. The manager of a corporation does indeed have a fiduciary duty to look after the shareholder’s interest. In argue with the narrow view theory, management have duties to othe r constituencies as well like employees and customers. A stakeholder value perspective places worth on social responsibility above profit. However, if the business is not profitable, it cannot provide for its valuable stakeholders. Thus, the business has a social responsibility to all involved to increase its profits. As long as the business works to balance the needs of all stakeholders, it should have no problem meeting its social responsibilities. When businesses increase their profits, they often create new jobs. Employees benefit from these jobs, and the community benefits from the money spent by these employees. When employees are able to spend money and pay taxes, they indirectly contribute to schools, libraries and other public institutions.

Modernism as an Impact in Society Essay

Modernism is a modernist movements in the art, its set of cultural tendencies and associated cultural movements, originally arising from wide-scale and far-reaching changes to Western society in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Modernism also reject the idea of enlightenment thinking as a well the idea of god as a powerful person. Modernism movement is focus on traditional activities such as; art, architecture, the religious faith, social organization and daily life, those things were become obsolete in the economic system, social and political implication that were presented the fully industrialized world. An example of modernism was â€Å"Sophistication† by Sherwood Anderson in (1876-1941). â€Å"Sophistication† has several controversial ideas that suggest negative consequences on society; insolation, and individuality of people. Tendencies about modernism presented in â€Å"sophistication† could be cause impact in depression. Depression is a mental state or chronic mental disorder characterized by feelings of sadness, loneliness, despair, low self-esteem, and self-reproach (Leonard). Modernism considers that exist a barrier that divides past from the present. It is an impassible barrier in the imagination of modernity. It? s cause the experience of disillusion which make it possible to capture the innocence of early days. Modernism suggest that all people have disillusion for any reason, this disillusion helps people to overcome the problem and also sees the world as an option to improve their live. Besides an idea of modernism is the disillusion of people. Sherwood Anderson in his story â€Å"Sophistication† suggest that: The mood that had taken possession of him was a thing known to men and unknown to boys. He felt old and a little tired. Memories awoke in him. To his mind his new sense of maturity set him apart, made of him a half-tragic figure. He wanted someone to understand the feeling that had taken possession of him after his mother’s death. (422) It means that George Willard is growing up into manhood but, he wants to have a person that can comprehend some feelings that had taken possession of him because he felt totally different in his new stage. On the other hand, James Leonard makes contrast about believes that Sherwood Anderson has with regard to puritanism. He suggest that disillusion cause spiritual depression: â€Å"Almost any disappointment, disillusionment, failure, or collapse-of-hopes might cause us to tumble into an emotional slump† In this perspective, disillusion cause a spiritual depression in which people that are facing problems like adaptation into society. When Elizabeth, his mother, finally dies, George Willard is oddly unaffected at first. He decides that now he will definitely leave Winesburg. â€Å"Sitting with his mother’s corpse, he begins to think of kissing Helen White. Having this thought while sitting next to his dead mother makes him feel guilty, and he begins to weep again. He leaves the room, still crying, overcome by a combination of fright and uncertainty. † (Anderson) However George remember things such when his mother death for that reason he felt loneliness and maybe in some moments he was depressed for both reason; his mother and Helen White. Sherwood in his story â€Å"Sophistication† arguments: â€Å"The sadness of sophistication has come to the boy. With a little gaps he sees himself as a merely a leaf blown by the wind through the streets of his villages†( p 423). That means that he has fair to confront the new world. He felt alone and his thoughts are that he is going to die uncertainly. Moreover, when people in society are facing situations that can affect their life like remembering of past, thing like this was difficult to overcome for them or accomplish some rules that society is show them such; aptitude related with sex, being part of fully industrialized world. Those thing can affect themselves. Also, if they do not accomplish those rules, they are discriminate or they cannot be part of the world. In some moment they are called stranger person or rare. The ideologies Modernism presents in Sophistication cause several impact on society. Modernism has its own relation with individualism. Subsequently, they belief are not shared by the religion. Modernism belief that individualism has association with liberty. On the other hand, â€Å"Sophistication† presents a corrupt interest on money as a form of refuse to obtain materials things. The point of view epitomized by Sherwood Anderson in his story â€Å"Sophistication† with an insignificant quotation: Helen arose and went into the house. At the door leading to a garden at the back she stopped and stood listening. Her mother began to talk. â€Å"There is no one here fit to associate with a girl of Helen’s breeding,† she said. Helen ran down a flight of stairs at the back of the house and into the garden. In the darkness she stopped and stood trembling. It seemed to her that the world was full of meaningless people saying words. With this example Anderson in his history try to demonstrate what important are the material things for Helens mother, saying to instructor that do not exist a man that can be compere with the status of Helen White. However, Helen felt sad because she thinks that in the word there are people who say stupid things. But, the mother does not take into account Helen’s feelings because people who are materialist do not care about people who are around them. Moreover Helen was thinking in George when she went to fair with the instructor. Besides, Anderson affirm that Helen’s thought was regard to George: Helen White was thinking of George Willard even as he wandered gloomily through the crowds thinking of her. She remembered the summer evening when they had walked together and wanted to walk with him again. She thought that the months she had spent in the city, the going to theaters and the seeing of great crowds wandering in lighted thoroughfares, had changed her profoundly. She wanted him to feel and be conscious of the change in her nature. That means that Helen is thinking in her love and also. And she also was remembering things when they were in the city, those things she cannot forget because they were like phantasy for her. Also, Helen White wants that George about some changes in her nature, those changes have to be with her growing up into womanhood. However, religion disagree with this point of view that modernist present in â€Å"Sophistication†. Religion has some fundaments related with love as important pillar in humans being. On the other hand, the religion criticizes the ambition for materials thing because God teach them in his bible that material things do not have anything to do with happiness. Reina Valera makes a contrast about belief of modernism: Make no store of wealth for yourselves on earth, where it may be turned to dust by worms and weather, and where thieves may come in by force and take it away, But make a store for yourselves in heaven, where it will not be turned to dust and where thieves do not come in to take it away: For where our wealth is, there will your heart be. (Matthew 6:19, 20, 21) God counsels to make our best things the joys and glories of the other world, those things not seen which are eternal, and to place our happiness in them. Furthermore, God tries to teach that if we die all materials things we are going to stay in this earth, for that reason materials things are not related with happiness. To sum up, the vision of Sherwood Anderson as a modernism believer has about the connection that exist between past and present when children are suffering some changes when they are growing up how is present in â€Å"sophistication† Helen White was change her childhood into womanhood at the same time of George was change his childhood into manhood. But, it is also important to take into account that those changes could affect their life because some children want not to be part of adult and some moments those changes could be the first cause of depression. After all, it is necessary to respect the perception that the religion has, it is in contrast of the ambition of material things or to get money. However, it is necessary to respect those beliefs that every person has about religion. Moreover Reina Valera teach us that material things do not have anything to do with happiness because God teach us that it is more important love because materials thing is going to stay in the earth when we die.

How to Build Your Own Style Guide

How to Build Your Own Style Guide How to Build Your Own Style Guide How to Build Your Own Style Guide By Mark Nichol I recently wrote a post advising writers and editors responsible for print or online publications to create their own style guide to supplement whichever published manual they follow, be it The Chicago Manual of Style, The Associated Press Stylebook, or a similar volume. Sensible enough, but how does one go about this task? First, note that a house style guide is not a comprehensive compendium; it is a resource that details rules and guidelines for consistency that contradict or are not covered in other resources. That said, a house style guide can range from a couple of pages to more than a thousand. (The Chicago Manual of Style, which exceeds that latter number, is simply a house style guide that escaped from the University of Chicago Press, for which it was created more than a hundred years ago, and went viral.) The size depends on how often, and how significantly, your publication veers from default resources and how complex its subject matter is. The first step is to select a style manual of record and a dictionary of record and to document that selection prominently in your house style guide. These publications should, with few exceptions, be the only ones of their kind that anyone who writes for your publication consults. For example, if you use Chicago, no one on your staff should be thumbing through The New York Times Manual of Style and Usage (or vice versa). And if a writer objects to your correction of their spelling, which they checked against The Oxford English Dictionary, inform them that your publication adheres to Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (or vice versa). (Exceptions include if your style guide or dictionary of record does not cover a certain issue or include a specific term.) Most style guides resemble encyclopedias or dictionaries in their organizational scheme, presenting information according to alphabetically arranged topics. For example, a house style guide might start with the following entries and the indicated details about them: Abbreviations (Which are acceptable?) Acronyms and Initialisms (Which can be used without first spelling out the entire term?) Addresses (When is abbreviation allowed?) Then, continue through topics starting with the letters B (such as bylines), C (capitalization, for example), and so on. To populate your house style guide, read through your publication’s (or any publication’s) content and brainstorm all the issues that come up. Here are some other examples: Cities (Which should be identified by the country in which they’re located, and which city names are sufficiently well known to stand alone? This entry might simply refer the reader to another resource, or to an appendix in the house style guide.) Colons (Capitalize the first word following a colon?) Company Names (Formal, as in â€Å"Microsoft Corporation,† or familiar, as in Microsoft, and maybe even Redmond from time to time?) Cross-References (How do you refer to other content previously published in your publication?) Entries should be clear and concise even terse and imperative and should include an example: For instance, a note about percentages might simply say, â€Å"Spell out percent but retain numeral form (â€Å"37 percent,† not â€Å"thirty-seven percent† or â€Å"37%†). Remember not to get carried away replicating rules found in your style guide or dictionary of record, especially at the expense of including essentials such as whether you employ the serial comma, how you style em dashes, or whether the text following a copyright symbol is preceded by a letter space. And no house style guide should omit a section about number style (cross-referenced to related entries such as the rule about percentages shown above). Also, don’t forget a word list. This is a record of idiosyncratic terms that don’t show up in the dictionary, because they’re neologisms or highly specific technical terms, or because they reflect variations in spelling. (For example, the founder of a publishing company I freelance for prefers some British American spellings, such as acknowledgements and grey, so those appear in the word list of his company’s house style guide.) Some house style guides, like the ones that have become universal resources, are organized by broad themes such as abbreviations, numbers, and special treatment of terms (such as capitalization and italics), but specific alphabetic entries are more useful. The Associated Press Stylebook goes to the other extreme, including entries for specific terms, from antiwar (to demonstrate the absence of a hyphen in that term) to â€Å"Major League Baseball† (to indicate that this term is a proper noun) to zookeeper (to show that this term is a closed compound), plus more comprehensive entries for general rules and a separate section on punctuation. A thematic organization with a word list is more manageable. One last note: A house style guide is a living document subject to change at any time, so refrain from using a hard copy you and other users will have to mark up with changes and additions (or frequently print out after updates are made). Encourage colleagues who might actually use the document to consult an online version that you or someone else manage; you might even make it available on an intranet or on Google Docs, with read-only access for anyone not authorized to amend it. 4 Huge Mistakes Job Seekers Make

4 Huge Mistakes Job Seekers Make No matter how careful and well prepared you are, mistakes are bound to happen during the job search process. Maybe you practiced a spiel for the wrong job and got your interviews mixed up, or you took the time or date down wrong, or you found an error on your resume. Whether it was a monumental or a minuscule screw-up, there are ways to recover. Here are four of the biggest and most common mistakes job seekers make and how to survive having made them.Wrong resumeYou’re applying to so many different positions and, rightly, you’ve carefully tailored your resume to each. Trouble is, now you have 20-some-odd resumes on your laptop and you sent the wrong one to this particular recruiter. If the one you submitted is only slightly different from the one you wanted to send, then it’s best to let it go. But if you submitted your Corporate Giving resume for a Marketing or Communications position, then it’s time to draft an email ASAP, kindly asking the recruiter to r eplace the resume in your file with the updated one attached. Nine times out of ten, they’ll do it and no one will be the wiser. When in doubt, bring multiple hard copies of the correct resume to your interview and make sure to give it to everyone with a simple, â€Å"here’s a hard copy of my most up-to-date resume.† No other explanations needed unless they ask. And if they do, focus on the material in the resume, not the fact that the first one you sent wasn’t perfectly spot on.Appointment chaosThis happens to everyone at some point in their lives- and almost always with something important like an interview. You’ve got a lot to keep track of during a job search- multiple positions at multiple companies, multiple resumes, and hopefully multiple interviews. If you messed up and got the time or date wrong, here’s what you do: immediately reach out to the hiring manager, state your mistake (without drama), express your sincere regrets for the m ix-up, and pivot immediately to offering to reschedule at their earliest convenience (then take whatever time they give you). You can follow this email or phone apology with a handwritten note for an extra touch. With any luck, they’ll see you as proactive, humble, and responsible, even with your mistake.LatenessBest avoided, obviously. But sometimes, even when you’ve left ample time, you’ll end up facing unforeseen circumstances out of your control, and you’ll end up late. The best strategy here is to reach out to the recruiter before you’re late, i.e. as soon as you realize you might not make it bang on time. Explain whatever situation you’re in- huge accident and traffic, broken down subway, etc. Don’t waste any breath on excuses, just state what’s happening, give them a heads up, offer preemptively to reschedule if their schedules are too tight to accommodate the delay.Even if it isn’t your fault, apologize for the t ardiness, then put the ball in their court. Most of the time  if you’ve projected calm and control in a time of crisis and have behaved responsibly under the circumstances, you’ll be fine. Remember to take a deep breath rather than run into the interview in a flustered, blind panic. Keep your head.Fumbling a questionAs soon as the answer to an interviewer’s question is out of your mouth, you realize your error. You’ve rehearsed the perfect answer to this question- or you haven’t, but you know you’re flubbing it- and you hear yourself saying something all wrong. Stop. Pivot. Say, â€Å"Sorry, let me rephrase that.† Or â€Å"Actually, let me say that again in a different way.† Your interviewer might not even notice the stumble. And you won’t have to walk out of the interview regretting your answer.Bottom line: no matter what mistake you made, recovery is possible in most cases. Just keep your cool, remain professional, a nd focus on the task at hand.4 Major Interview Mistakes (and How to Recover)

The future of photography Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The future of photography - Essay Example In spite of the fact that Kodak transformed the first advanced Polaroid, the business movement to computerized symbolism took a toll, leaving the organization fiscally tested in the course of recent decades, and inevitably heading Kodak to record a $6.75 billion chapter 11 in January 2012 (Collins, 23-31). In addition, Kodak have risen as an innovation organization serving imaging for business markets including bundling, useful printing, realistic interchanges and expert administrations. The organization for a long time have been revitalized by change and rebuilt to turn into an imposing contender leaner, with a solid capital structure, a sound asset report, and the business best innovation. With its key center now on fast advanced printing engineering and bundling for customer products, Kodak is normal in the following 25 years to have incomes of about $2.5 billion (Snyder, 9-12). Throughout the span of the 20-month liquidation incidents, Kodak sold off numerous licenses to individual industry titans including Apple, Amazon, Blackberry, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and Samsung. Tragically, the monetary yield was considerably lower than anticipated. Kodak was searching for more than $2 billion for its 1,100 advanced imaging licenses, yet was just equipped to create about $525 million. At last, the rebuilding arrangement worked out an annuity debate with organization retirees, yet wiped out its shareholders. Secured lenders and second-lien note holders are normal be pained up all required funds, despite the fact that general unsecured banks are just anticipated that will accept four or five pennies on the dollar (Eastman Kodak Co). Whats to come for Kodak in the following 25 years in any case, is brilliant. This is confirmation recognizing the way that one of Kodaks greatest remaining possessions is its exceptionally decently distinguished and made brand, which has been so well known for so long. While
